When learning about a second citizenship, many Vietnamese families are not only concerned about the main applicant but also ask: can the spouse and children accompany them in the same application, and is additional investment required? With the Turkish Citizenship by Investment program, the answer is very favorable: with a single investment, the spouse and children under 18 years old can all obtain citizenship together.
The biggest attraction of the Turkish citizenship program is its "one application for the whole family" feature. The main applicant only needs to fulfill a single qualifying investment, most commonly purchasing real estate worth at least USD 400,000, for the spouse and children under 18 to be included in the same application without requiring additional investment.
The total cost does not multiply according to the number of family members: whether the family has one child or three children, the investment amount remains the same, and each member receives an individual citizenship certificate and passport.
Spouse: A partner legally married to the main applicant is included in the application. Note that Turkish law only recognizes monogamous marriages; in polygamous cases, only one spouse is eligible for consideration in the same application.
Children under 18 years old: All biological or adopted children under 18 years old at the time of application submission are included. Timing note: if a child is close to turning 18, the family should submit the application early to ensure the child remains within the eligible age limit.
Dependent adult children with disabilities: Children over 18 years old who have disabilities and are dependent on their parents can still be considered for inclusion.
Exclusions: Parents, siblings, and adult children (over 18 years old, non-dependent) cannot be included in the same application; these individuals must submit separate applications with their own investments.

The most popular form is real estate investment, with the following core conditions:
Minimum threshold of USD 400,000: The property value must reach a minimum of USD 400,000, which can be a single property or a combination of multiple properties. This threshold has been applied since June 2022 (previously USD 250,000).
Official appraisal determines eligibility: The decisive figure is not the asking price or agreed price, but the official appraisal value conducted by a licensed appraisal company. If the appraisal value is lower than USD 400,000, the application will not be eligible even if the actual purchase price is higher.
Hold assets for a minimum of 3 years: The real estate will be annotated with a commitment not to sell for 3 years on the title deed (tapu). During this time, the family can still lease it out to generate income, and after 3 years, it can be sold without affecting the granted citizenship.
Eligible property types: From December 2023, the property must have apartment ownership rights or land with existing structures; vacant land is no longer eligible.
Funds must pass through the Turkish banking system: The investment must be transferred through a Turkish bank accompanied by a foreign currency purchase certificate (DAB) to prove the funds originated from abroad.
In addition to real estate, other options with a USD 500,000 threshold (bank deposit, government bonds, investment funds, fixed capital investment) or creating jobs for 50 Turkish workers also allow the spouse and children to be included equally, with a minimum holding period of 3 years.
When the entire family obtains Turkish citizenship together, the spouse and children will enjoy full rights as Turkish citizens:
Individual Turkish passport: Every member, including children, receives an individual passport with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to over 110 countries, including Japan, South Korea, and many Latin American countries. Note that a Turkish passport does not offer visa-free entry to the Schengen Area, the UK, or the US.
Live, study, and work freely: The whole family has the right to live, study, and work in Turkey without separate permits; children have access to the public education and healthcare systems.
No mandatory residency or language requirements: The program does not require the family to reside in Turkey before or after obtaining citizenship, nor does it require Turkish language tests or history checks.

The process usually includes the following steps: selecting eligible real estate and conducting official valuation; transferring funds through a Turkish bank, transferring title with a 3-year hold annotation; obtaining a Certificate of Eligibility from the land registry office; applying for short-term residence permits for the entire family; submitting citizenship application documents and awaiting security checks and final approval.
Actual processing time typically ranges from about 6 to 12 months depending on the application. Final approval is issued by Presidential decree; therefore, no consulting agency can guarantee a 100% successful outcome.
Check dual citizenship regulations: Turkey permits dual citizenship, but families need to check Vietnam's citizenship regulations before making a decision.
Apply early if children are turning 18 soon: A child's age is calculated at the time of application submission, so do not miss the 18-year threshold.
Choose a reputable consulting agency: Family applications require numerous documents (passports, birth certificates, marriage certificates, biometric photos) that must be translated into Turkish and notarized according to regulations; even a minor error can delay the application process.
Turkish citizenship for spouse and children is one of the most family-friendly programs today: with just a single investment starting from USD 400,000, the spouse and children under 18 years old can all obtain citizenship in a single application, without residency or language requirements. If you are looking for a solid "Plan B" for the future of your family, this is an option well worth considering.
